Badges
Overview
SDEIM provides a three-tiered badging credential across four categories that can be used for individual professional development or for preparation toward an SDEIM Certification. The four categories include: Leadership (L), Management (M), Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), Culture and Values (CV) and Communication and Relationships (CR).
SDEIM Professional (SDEIM, PRO™)
To earn the SDEIM, PRO Badge, you must successfully pass the certification exam based on the following competencies. Training for competency areas is available through Diversity 101 training sessions and will help prepare you for the certification exam. The three badging tiers are:

Communication and Presentation Skills (CR)
Effectively conveying key DEI messages to an audience
Courage (L)
Takes initiative to do the right thing on behalf of advancing DEI within an organization in the face of adversity or despite reluctancy and unpopular support from colleagues
DEI Continuum (DEI)
Awareness of the historical, social and legal implications of DEI, culture and race relations and its impact on current and future organizational policy and human resources practice
Decision-making/Judgment (L)
Ability to evaluate alternatives and render appropriate actions that mitigate risk while achieving successful DEI outcomes
Diversity and Cultural Awareness (DEI)
Self-awareness toward continuous learning of multicultural values, beliefs, norms and behaviors within an organization and the impact on organizational dynamics
Employee Engagement (CR)
Connecting and communicating with employees (where they are) to build trust, provide recognition, spark growth and create impact through meaningful work experiences
Performance Management (CV)
Demonstrates ability to recognize a fair system for appraising skills, abilities and behavior that advance an organization’s mission and goals
Resourcefulness (M)
Identifying organizational resources and applying varied and innovative solutions to challenges and complex DEI problems
Team Building (DEI)
Utilizing tools and techniques to build cohesion across cultural and social differences to improve team performance
Unconscious Bias Assessment (DEI)
Ability to bring to bear appropriate resources and tools that measure unconscious bias and appropriately interpret and explain results to individuals at all levels within an organization

Values Creation (CV)
Facilitating rigorous discussion to identify, refine and establish understanding of diverse beliefs and customs that advance an organization’s mission and practice
Intercultural Relationship Building (CR)
Crossing cultural divides to build formal and informal network of individuals and groups within and outside the organization that help to leverage resources, foster intercultural collaboration and deliver results
Emotional Intelligence (CR)
Demonstrating behaviors that show self-awareness and awareness of others while facilitating through cultural differences to manage one’s emotions and relationships with others
Culture Assessment (CV)
Understanding the means and tools to measure and determine the attitudes, values, beliefs, norms and practice of an organization, group or team
Conflict Management (M)
Engages differing views and approaches to work-tasks and processes to create understanding and resolve
Change Management (M)
Effectively manages the challenges and resistance associated with culture change in organizational transitions
Business Acumen (L)
Understanding the core elements of an organization’s strategy, operations, business analytics and the complexity of how all are affected by DEI internal dynamics and environmental forces
Influence and Savvy (M)
Ability to anticipate and navigate cross-cultural complexity within an organization while gaining understanding and support for an idea or position
Entrepreneurship and Innovation (L)
Effectively takes appropriate risks while launching new grass-roots program ideas and initiatives that advance DEI within an organization
Self-Efficacy and Resilience (L)
Demonstrating resilience, managing stressful challenges and portraying a sense of confidence while achieving one’s work in the area of DEI Ability
SDEIM Executive (SDEIM, EXE™) Certification
Establishing Culture (CV)
Demonstrating inclusive leadership while structurally creating value systems, beliefs, behavioral expectations, policies and procedures that generate an organizational culture of belonging
Storytelling (CR)
Integrating DEI concepts within historical experiences to effectively illustrate and communicate principles
Crisis Communication (CR)
Anticipating the impact of complex situations while utilizing communication tools and techniques to restore order, calm and predictability during challenging times of cultural and social change or uncertainty
Inclusive Leadership (DEI)
Leading with self-awareness and other awareness to create organizational cultures and environments where employees have a sense of belonging and feel psychologically safe to perform their work
Strategic Thinking (M)
Anticipating external forces and innovations to leverage DEI opportunities and position the organization for success
Managing Complexity (M)
Understanding and navigating diverse, competing perspectives and actions to effectively solve problems
Visionary (L)
Articulating an illustration of an organization’s advanced future state of DEI that is exponentially different from the current state
Leading Change (L)
Influencing the future direction of policy and cultural change within an organization while fostering inclusion to create an equitable workplace
Executive Presence (L)
Maintaining integrity while positively influencing stakeholders and demonstrating effective social skills and gravitas that convey confidence
Negotiation Skills (L)
Assessing multiple perspectives and alternatives to influence and generate DEI outcomes that are mutually beneficial
Brand Reputation and Management (DEI)
Building external relationships and communicating positive DEI messages that portray a consistent, positive and impactful image of the organization
Accountability (L)
Taking responsibility for the impact of DEI programs and initiatives through effective use of DEI dashboards and scorecards to initiate and sustain the business value of diversity
How it Works
The SDEIM competency-based badging system provides a dynamic approach toward professional development and/or earning a credential.
OPTION 1: Members can earn individual badges through SDEIM competency-based training for professional development
OPTION 2: Members can earn a cluster of badges through SDEIM training to practice for the SDEIM credential exam
OPTION 3: Members can sit for and successfully pass the SDEIM credential exam at the desired level
